A simple spaced repetition plan for exams

Published · Vithi team

Spaced repetition puts time between reviews so you have to retrieve an idea again. The useful part is the repeated test, not the exact number of days in an app.

Decide what is worth repeating

Use short facts, processes and common errors that must be available quickly. Do not turn an entire essay or chapter into dozens of isolated cards. For complex topics, add practice questions that require several ideas together.

Make prompts that reveal understanding

Ask one clear question per card and write an answer you can check. “What is photosynthesis?” is broad; “What role does light play in the first stage?” is easier to assess. Include a diagram or example when the course tests application.

Schedule a manageable review

Review a new item the next day, then after a few days, then about a week later. Move a missed item closer and a consistently correct item farther away. These intervals are a starting point, not a rule that outranks your actual exam date.

Mix recall with application

Once the basic idea is familiar, solve an unfamiliar exam question. A card can prove that you remember a definition while a question shows whether you can use it. Keep both results in your revision log.
